LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Stefan Aleksic (Belgrade, Serbia/Sport Gymnasium) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Thursday. Aleksic totaled 13 goals, six assists, seven steals and four ejections drawn as he helped lead the Bison to a 5-0 mark at last weekend's Bison Invitational.
Aleksic, a two-time Honorable Mention All-American, posted at least two goals in all five games last weekend, including a career-high five in the final contest, a 20-8 victory over Washington & Jefferson. He now has a team-high 18 goals on the season, while his 28 points also top the squad.
A starter in all nine games this season, Aleksic is just four points shy of 300 in his career. Aleksic's 132 career assists put him just two shy of tying Jeff Hilk for 10th place on the program's all-time list.
This is the second time Aleksic has been named CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week in his career. He was previously honored last October after totaling nine goals and nine assists to lead Bucknell to an undefeated record at the Santa Clara Rodeo.
Aleksic and his Bison teammates, who own a 7-2 record this season, will be idle this weekend. They will return to action Saturday, Sept. 26, when they start league play on the road against George Washington (11 a.m.) and Johns Hopkins (4 p.m.).
