LEWISBURG, Pa. –Nick Bybel achieved a first for the Bucknell men's tennis team last season when he debuted at No. 114 in the ITA national rankings. He has surpassed that accomplishment already this season with a ranking of 95th in the year's first edition of the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Men's Division I Rankings, which were released on Tuesday.
After sitting out the season-opening Bucknell Tournament, Bybel will make his first appearance of his final season at Bucknell when the Bison compete in the Ivy Plus Tournament this weekend at Princeton. He will have the opportunity to bolster his national ranking against some of the toughest competition he will face during the fall season. Twelve of the 22 teams expected at the tournament finished in the national rankings last season.
Bybel enters his senior season after an outstanding junior year in which he went 38-3 in singles, including a nearly perfect 22-1 record during the spring. He finished the year on a 21-match winning streak, including a pair of wins at the Patriot League Tournament, and was named the Patriot League Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. He also teamed with Bryan Adams to receive the Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year award.
Bybel is already the Bucknell record holder in career singles wins with a mark of 86-21. His 38 wins last season were easily the most in program history, topping his previous record of 26-9. He currently sits in eight in career doubles wins with a record of 62-28 and fourth in combined wins with a record of 148-49.
