LEWISBURG, Pa. – Both the Bucknell women's and men's track and field teams received All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Additionally, the Bison women were represented by Sophia Nnadi and the Bison men were represented by Christian Lupica on the organization's individual All-Academic Team.
The Bucknell women carried an impressive cumulative team GPA of 3.40, which ranked second among the six Patriot League teams on the list. Nnadi has a cumulative GPA of 3.62 , including a 3.60 during the spring semester. She was named the Patriot League Women's Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year shortly after being voted the Field Athlete of the Meet at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. She earned two all-conference awards at the meet with a title in the shot put and a runner-up finish in the hammer throw, and went on to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary.
The Bison men posted a 3.15 GPA and were one of five teams to earn All-Academic honors. Lupica had a 3.83 GPA during the semester and graduated with a 3.44 mark to earn All-Academic honors for the second straight year. He won three Patriot League titles during his senior season, taking first in the 60-meter hurdles at the indoor championships and in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles at the outdoor championships. He went on to compete at the East Preliminary Meet for the third consecutive season.
“I am so proud with how well the majority of our program is able to balance a rigorous academic curriculum and maintain a high level of athletic excellence at the Division I level,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “They show tremendous time management skills, which will help them later on in life, as well.”
The Bucknell men have earned three USTFCCCA All-Academic honors over the past two seasons. Nnadi is the first Bison woman to receive the award since Tayler Siegrist in 2012.
