LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell softball will take a break from Patriot League play this weekend as it hosts Robert Morris and Binghamton for three games in two days. The Bison will play the Colonials on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., and will take on the Bearcats in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
Bucknell looks to get back on track after falling in all three games at Lehigh last weekend. Despite a current seven-game losing streak, the Bison are 19-17, which is the program's best record this far into the season since 2010. They need just four more wins to match last year's win total.
Sophomore catcher Christina Martinez has a four-game hitting streak, going 4-for-10 with two doubles and a triple during that stretch. Sophomore second baseman Jacee Almond came through with two hits in the final game against Lehigh, giving her a team-leading 11 multi-hit games.
Senior outfielder Kristen Zahn has 11 multi-RBI games and has driven in 33 runs this season. That total ranks as the fifth best single-season mark in team history and is just three shy of breaking the record. Junior Amanda Fazio is also nearing a single-season record. Her 21 steals rank fourth and are just four shy of taking over the top spot. Fazio leads the team with a .371 batting average.
Bucknell's game against Robert Morris will be a rematch of an exciting game from earlier this season. Zahn scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning to five the Bison a 6-5 win over the Colonials at the season-opening Cleveland State Dome Tournament.
Robert Morris, which holds a 2-1 edge in the all-time series with Bucknell, is 16-14 on the season. The Colonials haven't played since April 1, when they had a four-game winning streak snapped with a 5-1 loss to Canisius.
Bucknell is 1-3 in the all-time series with Binghamton, which enters Saturday with a 12-11 record. The Bearcats have won three straight games, winning the final game of a series with Stony Brook and sweeping a doubleheader with Hartford.
