LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball team hasn't played a non-league game since it defeated Binghamton and Mount St. Mary's on back-to-back days nearly two weeks ago, but will get back to non-conference action this week when it travels to Penn State. The Bison and Nittany Lions will meet in a 6:30 p.m. contest Tuesday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Tuesday's game will have live statistics and live audio available via GoPSUSports.com.
Bucknell (15-14, 1-7 Patriot League) is coming off a 1-3 weekend at Lehigh that featured two walk-off wins Sunday by the Mountain Hawks. The Bison won the first game of the series 4-2 behind a complete-game, extra-inning victory by starter Bryson Hough.
Freshman Aaron Fritz brings a team-best six-game hitting streak in Tuesday's contest. The rookie started two games at designated hitter this past weekend and is now hitting .318 on the season.
Junior Joe Ogren continues to lead the Bison in hitting (.352). The second baseman also paces the squad in hits (38), home runs (4), RBIs (23) and total bases (58).
Bucknell is hitting .255 as a team and has a 3.56 ERA. Penn State, which lost the final game of a three-game series at Ohio State Monday afternoon, is hitting .264 and has a 5.16 ERA.
The Nittany Lions are 8-18 on the year, but own a 6-2 home record. They will play another Patriot League foe Wednesday when they host Lafayette.
Bucknell is 34-115 all-time against Penn State, but earned its first victory over the Nittany Lions since 1998 last March. The squads met in a four-game series with doubleheaders played at each home field. The Bison won game three of the series at Depew Field behind a four-hit shutout by Andrew Andreychik.
Tuesday's game is the first of two meetings between Bucknell and Penn State this year. The two squads will square off again next Wednesday.
Following Tuesday's game, the Bison will begin preparation for this weekend's four-game Patriot League series against Army. Doubleheaders will be played both days at Depew Field. It will begin a stretch of Bucknell playing 11 of 12 games at home.
