LEWISBURG, Pa. – Led by the past two Patriot League Track Athlete of the Meet award winners, the Bucknell men's track and field team will compete in the conference's outdoor championships at Army's Shea Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
“Navy seems to be favored, with Boston, Army and us as dark horses,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “Our men are ready and excited and we plan to compete hard and make this an outstanding track and field meet.”
The Bison finished as the runner-up at this year's indoor championships, where Andrew Garcia-Garrison was named the track MVP after winning four events. Christian Lupica was a three-event winner and earned MVP honors while guiding the Bison to a runner-up finish at last year's outdoor championships.
Navy won the 2014 Patriot League Outdoor Championships with 239 points, while Bucknell came in second with 176. Lupica's wins came in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles and the 4x100 relay. He enters the weekend with the league's fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles and the fourth-best time in the 400-meter hurdles. His teammate, Grant Reynolds, ranks second in the shorter hurdles race.
Garcia-Garrison has already had one of the best seasons in Bucknell history, and will look to further bolster his resume this weekend. He has the fastest time in the 1,500-meter run by more than three seconds. He finished second in that event and the 800m last season.
Bucknell has two throwers who achieved All-Patriot League status at last year's outdoor meet. Brian Monahan was second in the shot put, and Laddie Trees was the runner-up in the javelin. Trees has the best javelin throw in the league by more than 10 feet this season.
Joseph Breen is tied for the top throw in the shot put this season, thanks to a school-record setting toss at the Bison Outdoor Classic. Kevin Tapper has the second best triple jump. He scored in an amazing five events at this year's indoor championships.
The Bison also have a good chance to add points in multiple relays. They rank second in both the 4x100 and 4x800 races.
