LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Anthony Gingerelli (Worcester, Mass./Burncoat) was named the Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week on Monday. The outfielder was 13-for-29 with three home runs and nine RBIs in seven games last week as he helped the Bison to a 5-2 record, including a 3-1 mark against conference foe Holy Cross.
A First Team All-Patriot League selection a year ago, Gingerelli earned his second career weekly award from the Patriot League.
Gingerelli had at least one hit in all seven games last week and finished the season on a career-best eight-game hitting streak. He posted four multi-hit outings last week, including a 3-for-4 performance in the series finale at Holy Cross.
The week started well for Gingerelli, who hit two home runs in a non-conference win against St. Bonaventure. He then hit another homer the next day in a win over Towson. Gingerelli became the first Bison since last April to post a multi-home run outing.
Ten of Gingerelli's 13 hits last week went for extra bases as he had seven doubles to go along with his three home runs. His 18 doubles this season were a new career high and rank third on the program's single-season list.
Gingerelli's .448 batting average last week brought his season average up to .301 and his career average to .300. The right fielder finished his final campaign with three home runs, 24 RBIs, 23 extra-base hits and 28 runs scored.
On a career level, Gingerelli played in 131 games, including all 46 this season. He had eight home runs, 64 RBIs and 70 runs scored in three seasons.
Bucknell wrapped up its season on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep at Holy Cross. The Bison finished the campaign with a 24-22 overall record, winning five of their final six contests.
