Women's Water Polo Downs George Washington 9-6 to Finish 7th at CWPA Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. – Taylor Barnett scored a game-high five goals and four other Bison added one apiece to lead the Bucknell women's water polo team to a 9-6 victory over George Washington Sunday morning in the seventh-place game at the CWPA Championship at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. The seventh-place finish marks the 13th consecutive year the Bison have finished in the top eight at the CWPA Championship.
The win helped Bucknell (14-14) post a .500 record for the first time since going 17-10 in 2010. The Bison were 3-0 in 2015 against George Washington (14-17).
The seventh-seeded Bison outscored the Colonials 2-0 in the first period thanks to a pair of goals by Barnett. Ninth-seeded George Washington narrowed its deficit to 5-4 at halftime.
A goal by Sayeh Bozorghadad midway through the third period gave Bucknell an 8-5 lead. Barnett then clinched the outcome by scoring a goal with 3:48 to play in the fourth quarter that made the score 9-6.
Tegan Stanbach, Hannah Sunday and Eleanor Marrs also netted goals for the Bison, while Manuela Herrera posted seven saves.
Thanks to her five goals Sunday, Barnett, one of two seniors on the roster along with Bozorghadad, finished the season with 44 goals and her career with 136.
