LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's lacrosse freshman midfielder Gretchen Richter (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) was named Second Team All-Patriot League, the league office announced Monday. She was one of just three freshmen to earn a place on the All-Patriot League Teams.
Richter is the second consecutive Bison rookie named to the All-Patriot League Team, following current sophomore Lucia Smircich, who was a second-team choice a year ago.
A starter in all 17 games, Richter put together an outstanding rookie campaign. She smashed the school record by winning 84 draw controls, beating Arriana Sajjad's previous school standard (58) by 26. Richter ranked second in the Patriot League in draw controls this year. She posted a season-high 10 in a February win over Saint Francis (Pa.), and she had eight other games with at least five.
Richter finished second on Bucknell with 26 goals and finished the season by scoring at least one goal in five consecutive games. She scored a season-high four goals against Columbia the final week of the season and then matched that figure in the season finale against Boston U. on Saturday.
Named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Feb. 16, Richter ranked third on the Bison with 30 points this year. She converted on better than 46 percent of her shots, had 25 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers to rank among the best on the team in that category.
Bucknell finished the 2015 season with a 2-15 overall record and an 0-8 mark in the Patriot League.
