Men's Tennis Shuts Out Lafayette for Fifth Straight Win

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team ran its winning streak to five straight matches with a 7-0 shutout of conference rival Lafayette on Thursday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. The Bison improved to 10-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the win, while the Leopards dropped to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the league.
The Bison took the first two completed doubles matches to clinch the first point, starting with an 8-3 victory by Octavio Canibe and Ben Gerber at No. 3. Nick Bybel and Bryan Adams followed with an 8-3 verdict at No. 1 to put their team up 1-0.
All four of those players were also victorious in singles play as Bucknell didn't lose a set in their six wins. Bybel won at No. 1, Adams picked up a point at No. 3, Canibe won his match at No. 4, and Ben Gerber notched a victory at No. 6. The four were joined by Daniel Wright and Maxwell Kane with wins at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively.
Bybel improved to 31-3 during the fall and spring seasons and upped his winning streak to 14 matches. Wright and Canibe each increased their unbeaten streaks to five matches. It was the second time Wright played at No. 2 this season. He improved to 2-0 at that spot and 13-2 overall this spring.
In doubles, Bybel and Adams have proven to be unbeatable as of late. The duo has won seven straight contests . They are 13-2 during the dual season.
“Matches like this really show the depth of this team and how far we've come both in doubles and singles,” Adams said. “We're feeling very fit and confident heading into a string of Patriot League matches this weekend, and indoors or outdoors, we're looking forward to getting some revenge.”
Bucknell is set to play three straight conference matches on three consecutive days. The Bison will go on the road for matches against Colgate and Army on Saturday and Sunday, and will host Lehigh on Monday.
