Cioffi Posts Big Win in Bucknell's Loss to Army West Point

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team played its final Patriot League match of the regular season on Wednesday, falling to Army West Point at the Bucknell Tennis Courts.
The Bison finished 2-4 in the conference. They are 6-13 overall, but still have a non-conference match at IUP left on the schedule before they begin play in the Patriot League Tournament.
Junior Maria Cioffi defeated Carolyn Pitman 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, giving her a solid resume for Patriot League Player of the Year consideration. She went 6-0 against conference opponents, playing the top player on each team. Pitman, her most recent opponent, is a two-time All-Patriot League selection, including a First Team honoree last year.
Cioffi, a First Team selection and Scholar-Athlete of the Year last season, has won nine straight matches to improve to 11-6 during the spring. Last year's Patriot League Player of the Year, Boston University's Johanna Hyoty, lost to Pitman in her most recent match.
Bucknell honored Alyssa McAndrew and Christie Schneider for Senior Day prior to the match. Both players were in the starting lineup, as McAndrew played at No. 1 doubles and No. 5 singles, and Schneider played at No. 6 singles.
