Women's Tennis Falls to Two Patriot League Opponents Over the Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell women's tennis team lost road matches to a pair of tough Patriot League opponents over the weekend, falling 5-2 to Loyola (Md.) on Saturday and 6-1 at Navy on Sunday. The Bison dropped to 6-11 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Junior Maria Cioffi and Madeline Melch won in singles against Loyola, which improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the league. Cioffi topped Megan Hahn 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, while Melch was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Julie Clark at No. 5.
The Bison lost the doubles point against the Greyhounds, but did receive a win from Cioffi and Stephanie Pino at No. 2. The duo bested Hahn and Olivia Ott 8-4.
Cioffi was the lone winner against Navy as she edged Sam Droop, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection last season, in a three-set battle. Cioffi took the first set in a tiebreak, dropped the second set 6-1 and won the third set super tiebreak. She is unbeaten in her past seven matches, upping her record to 9-6 during the spring.
Bucknell concludes the regular season with three matches this week, including Patriot League matches against Lehigh and Army on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. The regular season finale will be played at IUP: on Saturday.
