Women's Tennis Wins Top Three Singles, But Falls to Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell won the top three singles matches, but was edged 4-3 by Lehigh in Patriot League women's tennis action Tuesday.
Junior Maria Cioffi continued to stake her claim as one of the top players in the Patriot League. A returning First Team All-Patriot League selection, Cioffi is peaking at the right time for the Bison as she continues to increase her winning streak. She topped Christina Auyeung 6-3, 6-2 at No.1 singles for her eighth straight win, improving to 10-6 during the spring.
The Bison also received wins from freshman Lisa Jouravleva and sophomore Michele Urbinati. Jouravleva was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 2, while Urbinati was a 7-6 (3), 7-5 victor at No. 3.
The difference in the match came down to two close decisions in doubles play. Lehigh won in a tiebreak at both No. 1 and No. 2.
Bucknell concludes Patriot League play with a 2 p.m. match against Army at the Bucknell Tennis Courts on Tuesday. The Bison will honor Christie Schneider and Alyssa McAndrew for Senior Day prior to the match.
