LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell freshman swimmer Chris Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) was named the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week thanks to his impressive performance at this past weekend's ECAC Championships at Pittsburgh's Trees Pool. The recently named Patriot League Rookie of the Meet won the 200-yard backstroke, finished third in the 200 individual medley and placed eighth in the 200 freestyle at the season's final meet.
Already the school record holder in the 200 back (1:45.04), Devlin capped the ECAC Championships with Bucknell's first individual victory in that event at ECACs since Don Steenson claimed first in both the 100 and 200 back in 1992. Devlin defeated Pittsburgh's Matt Tankle in the final by 1.25 seconds, touching the wall in 1:45.80, after winning the prelims by 1.52 seconds.
Devlin opened the ECAC Championships Friday with a third-place finish in the 200 IM. His finals time of 1:49.15 ranks second in program history.
On the middle day of ECACs, Devlin placed eighth in the 200 free. His time of 1:39.39 ranks sixth in school history. It was just the sixth meet this season Devlin competed in the 200 free.
A busy Devlin also swam as part of four Bison relays at the ECAC Championships.
A First Team All-Patriot League selection last week, Devlin's ECAC performance followed a strong showing at his first Patriot League Championships. The freshman became Bucknell's first Rookie of the Meet since Luke Trafton in 2007 and posted three top-five finishes in individual events, setting three school records in the process.
Devlin finished first in the 400 IM, second in the 200 back and fifth in the 100 back at Patriots. He was also part of four relays that posted program top-10 times.
This is the second weekly award this season for Devlin, who was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 10.
