Women's Water Polo Concludes California Trip with 11-7 Win Over Whittier

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Bucknell women's water polo team scored five of the game's final six goals to end its eight-game spring break trip to California with an 11-7 win over Whittier to close out the weekend Aztec Invitational Sunday afternoon. Earlier in the day the Bison dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 15 Pacific.
Bucknell (8-10) finished its California trip with a 2-6 mark, but played four nationally ranked opponents.
Eleanor Marrs had three goals and three assists in the win over the Poets (10-6). She netted the first two goals of the game for the Bison, and three of the first four. Tegan Stanbach and Colleen Barron chipped in two goals apiece as Bucknell equaled its most goals scored in a game during its west coast trip.
The score was tied at 6-all late in the third quarter when Julia Ingersoll started the Bison's late-game scoring surge. Martine McCarthy opened the fourth quarter with a goal. After a score by Jenel Rivera brought Whittier back to within one, Barron, Stanbach and Taylor Barnett netted three goals in a row to give Bucknell the final four-goal margin.
Manuela Herrera recorded three saves in cage in the victory.
The Bison were held to two goals for a second straight game in the day's opener against Pacific (8-9). Despite the low-scoring affair, Bucknell was tied with the Tigers 1-1 at halftime. However, Pacific outscored the Bison 3-0 in the third quarter on its way to the three-goal win.
Marrs and Barnett scored the two Bison goals in the contest against the Tigers, while Haley Derrod posted six saves. Hannah Sunday drew five ejections and now has 80 on the year to rank sixth on the program's single-season list.
Bucknell will now be idle until an April 11 non-conference game at Gannon. The Bison will host a handful of club teams in exhibitions the weekend of March 28-29.
