
LIU Brooklyn Scores Ninth-Inning Run to Defeat Bucknell Baseball 3-2

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The LIU Brooklyn baseball team scored an unearned run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Bucknell 3-2 Thursday in Florida. The game had been deadlocked at 2-2 since the fourth inning. The Bison fell to 7-5 on the year, while the Blackbirds improved to 5-4.
Bucknell had 11 hits in the game, including four by Anthony Gingerelli and three by Mike Korchak, but the Bison left 12 runners on base, including two in the bottom of the ninth inning and seven over the final three innings.
Senior Jordan Holtz started the game on the mound for Bucknell and pitched 6.1 innings. He allowed just four hits and two runs and struck out three. Five relievers were used after him with none pitching more than 0.2 innings.
The Bison's first run came in the bottom of the second inning and tied the score at 1-1. Rob Krentzman led off the frame reaching on an error and later scored an unearned run on a fielder's choice by Chuckie Scales.
Bucknell evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth when Korchak reached on a one-out single and came around to score on a two-out single by Scales.
Brian Drapeau logged 7.1 innings for LIU Brooklyn and scattered 10 Bison hits. Dustin Carlson pitched the final 1.2 innings and yielded just one hit and no runs to even his record on the season at 1-1.
Bucknell will wrap up its Florida trip with games against Butler each of the next two days. Friday's contest is at 3:30 p.m., while Saturday's is at 10 a.m.
