Men's Tennis Concludes Florida Trip with Loss to Creighton

ORLANDO, Fla. – Bucknell men's tennis concluded its Florida trip with a 6-1 loss to Creighton on Thursday. The Bison will return to Lewisburg with an overall record of 5-6.
Creighton won for the fifth straight match, improving to 11-2 on the season.
Junior Nick Bybel cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Creighton's Jake Norman at No. 1 singles to wrap up a perfect 5-0 record in Florida. He has won nine straight singles matches and is 10-1 during the spring season. Including the fall schedule, his 26 wins tie his own single-season program record.
Bybel also teamed with sophomore Bryan Adams for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. They are 8-2 during the dual season.
The teams split the first two completed doubles match, and two freshmen almost locked up the point for the Bison at No. 2. William Szamosszegi and Timber Erskine pushed the match to a tiebreak, before falling 8-7 (4).
“Playing shorthanded due to some minor injuries made it that much tougher to overcome a good Creighton team,” said Bucknell head coach Craig Schwartz. “It's always good, though, for some of the bottom guys to get some opportunities. We really battled in doubles but came up just short. Overall this was a great week for the guys, and I have seen numerous improvements across the board. We are ready to win lots of matches when we get back to Lewisburg.”
Bucknell will play its first two home matches of the spring season when it hosts Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday and Rider on Thursday.
