LEWISBURG, Pa. -- After a terrific 13-save performance in the Bucknell men's lacrosse team's 7-5 victory over nationally ranked Bryant on Saturday, senior Sam Grinberg has earned the Corvias Patriot League Goalie of the Week award for the fourth time in his career.
Grinberg played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Bison, and he made eight of his 13 saves in the second half of a close game. Headlining his ledger was a highlight-reel two-save flurry on a couple of point-blank shots while Bucknell was working to protect a two-goal lead in the second half.
Grinberg backstopped a Bison defense that pitched a shutout in the first half against No. 19/14 Bryant, a team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals after beating Syracuse in the first round last season. The defense posted scoreless streaks of 30:15 and 22:33, helping the Bison maintain the lead for the final 50:18 of the contest.
Grinberg earned PL Goalie of the Week honors twice last season and once as a sophomore in 2013. In two games in 2015, he has a 7.92 goals-against average and a .571 save percentage.
Bucknell is idle until Saturday, when it travels to Navy for the Patriot League opener at noon at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium.
