LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior women's water polo player Hannah Sunday (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) earned her first career 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. The team co-captain totaled 19 goals, 22 ejections drawn and seven steals in helping lead Bucknell to a 5-1 record at the Bison Invitational on the opening weekend of the 2015 season.
Perhaps the highlight of the weekend for Sunday was a Bucknell record-tying seven-goal performance in a 14-12 win over VMI. The center became just the fourth player in program history to net seven goals in a game, joining Meg Blitzer (2004), Valentina Rozas (2009) and teammate Taylor Barnett (2012).
Sunday led the Bison in goals over the weekend and posted five multi-goal outings with four of those featuring at least three goals.
The owner of Bucknell's single-season ejections drawn record (120), Sunday drew 22 ejections over the weekend, including 12 on the final day of the three-day event. She now has 191 ejections drawn in her career, placing her third in school history.
Sunday is women's water polo's first Bison Athlete of the Week since Barnett was honored following her seven-goal game in April 2012.
The Bison will be idle this coming weekend before continuing their season-opening 10-game homestand with four CWPA league games Feb. 28-March 1.
