LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling team returns home this weekend after an unbeaten four-match road trip. The Bison will host EIWA foes Franklin & Marshall (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Army (Saturday at 2 p.m.) as they enter the second-to-last weekend of the regular season. Both matches can be seen live on Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network.
Bucknell (13-3, 6-0 EIWA) is in the midst of its longest winning streak since the late 1980s as it has won eight duals in a row. The last time the Bison won more in a row was when they posted 11 straight victories spanning the end of the 1987-88 season and the beginning of the 1988-89 campaign.
Bucknell's 13 wins this year are a school record and its two-year win total of 23 equals a program record. The Bison are also 4-0 at home this year and have won six in a row overall at Davis Gym.
Bucknell this weekend will be looking to avenge last year's losses at Franklin & Marshall and Army. The Bison lost to the Diplomats by a 23-21 score, while they dropped a 24-11 dual against the Black Knights.
Senior 285-pounder Joe Stolfi was able to keep his long winning streak intact last time out with a 10-0 major decision at American. The two-time NCAA qualifier who leads the nation in pins with 16 has now won 18 straight bouts to improve to 31-5 on the season. Stolfi ranks second on Bucknell's career pins list (48) and his 31 victories this year place him tied for 10th on the school's single-season list.
Senior 197-pounder Tyler Lyster is second on the team with a career-high 25 wins this season. He has captured six bouts in a row. Lyster is 4-0 in EIWA duals and has a career-high six wins by fall, including last Saturday at American.
Freshman 184-pounder Tom Sleigh (24), sophomore 149-pounder Victor Lopez (20) and junior 125-pounder Paul Petrov (20) have also reached the 20-win plateau this season.
Following this weekend's duals, Bucknell will return to action next weekend with two more matches. The Bison will host Binghamton Friday, Feb. 20, in a 7 p.m. match and then travel to VMI Sunday, Feb. 22, for the final dual of the regular season. Senior Night festivities honoring Tyler Lyster, Joe Orecchio and Ray Schlitt will take place prior to the Binghamton match.
