LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior RB Matt DelMauro (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) continued his string of academic awards with Wednesday's announcement he was the Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year. DelMauro was also one of 14 student-athletes across the conference named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Classmate OL Clayton Hoffmaster (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) was Bucknell's other Academic All-Patriot League Team member.
DelMauro, who was recently named CoSIDA Academic All-District II for the second consecutive year, is the eighth Bison to be named Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and the first since Bucknell players Travis Nissley (2009, 2010) and Tim Bolte (2011) claimed the award the straight years.
Continuing a string of academic and athletic success by Bucknell student-athletes, DelMauro is the third Bison player to earn a Scholar-Athlete award from the Patriot League this fall, joining Nora Adams (women's cross country) and Jesse Klug (men's soccer).
Named Second Team All-Patriot League on Tuesday, DelMauro is the third Bison to be named Academic All-Patriot League twice, following Bolte (2010, 2011) and Derek Maurer (2013, 2014).
DelMauro earlier this fall was named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy and he has often been honored with citations that highlight his strong combination of academics along with athletics. The three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member was named to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team last year. An accounting and financial management major, DelMauro has also been on Bucknell's Dean's List multiple times and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
On the field, DelMauro posted three 100-yard rushing games this season and led the team with a career-high 655 rushing yards. He played in all 11 games and led the team with 812 all-purpose yards.
DelMauro finished his career with 1,730 career rushing yards in 31 career games. He totaled nearly 300 career receiving yards and scored 11 touchdowns. The versatile DelMauro capped his career with 2,073 all-purpose yards.
Hoffmaster is a two-year starter on the Bison offensive line. After starting all 11 games at right guard as a freshman in 2012, he spent two years as a valuable reserve before claiming the starting left guard position this fall. Hoffmaster will graduate with 27 games played and 23 total starts over the last four years.
A three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member who has been on the Dean's List every semester, Hoffmaster posted a perfect grade-point average in the most recent semester.
This is the third straight year Bucknell has had multiple players named Academic All-Patriot League.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Bucknell finished the 2015 season with a 4-7 overall mark and a 1-5 Patriot League record.
