LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell is listed second in the Corvias Patriot League Presidents' Cup standings following the fall season, the league office announced Tuesday. Helped by a Patriot League title from the women's cross country team, the Bison are atop the women's cup standings.
Bucknell is in second place to Boston University in the overall standings, just 1.5 points behind. The Bison hold a 3.5-point lead on the Terriers in the women's cup standings, while Bucknell is listed seventh in the men's cup standings.
The Bison women's cross country team captured its ninth Patriot League title last month when it dominated the championship meet, claiming six of the 14 All-Patriot League spots. It was Bucknell's only championship of the fall campaign, but plenty of other teams had success.
Under first-year head coach Kelly Kuss, the women's soccer squad finished in second place in the Patriot League standings with a 6-1-2 mark in conference play and the team advanced to the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament, falling to host Boston U. Bucknell was 11-6-3 overall, thanks in part to a dominating defense that posted 11 shutouts.
Despite losing a large senior class to graduation, the field hockey team put together a solid campaign and earned a spot in the Patriot League Tournament at the No. 4 seed. In the postseason semifinals, the Bison pushed top-seeded Boston U. to double overtime before falling to the eventual champions.
Third-year head coach Anna Allison guided the volleyball team to a 14-12 overall record this fall, its first winning mark since 2006. The Bison were 8-8 in Patriot League play, finishing one spot out of the Patriot League Tournament. Bucknell capped its season with back-to-back home wins over Army and Holy Cross on the final weekend of the regular season. The win over the Black Knights was the first for the Bison in nine years.
The men's soccer team earned a fourth consecutive bid to the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 5 seed after posting a 3-3-3 Patriot League mark. The Bison could not match their run from 2014 when they won the title as the No. 5 seed and finished the campaign 7-7-5 overall.
Bucknell's football team and men's cross country squad both earned sixth-place finishes this fall.
Corvias Patriot League Presidents' Cup points are awarded based on a team's performance in the regular season and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving and track and field, the points are awarded based on the final team standing at the Patriot League Championship. Points for football are awarded based on regular-season standings.
Bucknell has captured the Presidents' Cup 18 times in 25 years in the league.
