LEWISBURG, Pa. – After a 2-0 week, the Bucknell women's basketball team swept the Lids Team Sports Patriot League Player of the Week awards on Monday. Sophomore Jacquie Klotz was voted the Player of the Week, as well as the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week, while freshman Kaitlyn Slagus was named the Rookie of the Week.
Klotz is in the middle of the best stretch of her young career, carrying a streak of three straight double-doubles into Bucknell's upcoming home game against Mount St. Mary's. The most recent came with huge numbers, as she tallied 33 points and 19 rebounds in a 61-56 win at Manhattan on Saturday. She became the first player in Bucknell history to record at least 33 points and 19 rebounds in a single game and matched Susie Hopper (1987-90) for combined points and rebounds in a single game. Hopper scored 36 and had 16 rebounds in 110-80 win over Rider during the 1989-90 season.
Shooting 12-for-20 from the field and 9-for-10 at the foul line, Klotz became the Bison's first 30-point scorer since the 2009 season. That performance followed a 19-point, 16-rebound showing in a 76-46 win over Binghamton on Wednesday.
Klotz receives the Player of the Week honor for the second time during her career, adding to the one she won last season as a freshman. She averaged a double-double for the week with 26.0 ppg and 17.5 rpg. She ranks second in the Patriot League this season in scoring (21.0 ppg) and rebounding (13.0).
Slagus had a breakout game in the win over Binghamton, scoring a career-high 11 points thanks in large part to a perfect 5-for-5 night at the foul line. The double-figure scoring effort came in just 13 minutes on the floor, and she added two rebounds, one assist and a steal.
Bucknell's game against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion. It is the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader, as the Bison men will host Siena at 7 p.m.
