LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bucknell men's cross country team finished 15th in a tough field of 24 teams at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. The Bison, led by senior Peter Murray in 108th, tallied a final score of 474. The team title was won by No. 8 Iona with 51, followed by No. 10 Michigan with 67.
Michigan's Mason Ferlic won the individual crown with a time of 23:51, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of second-place Edwin Kibichiy from Louisville. Murray crossed the line in 25:27.
“Our men ran a solid race and did a very nice job teaming up with each other during the race,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “The seven-second spread among our top five was great, however we do need a frontrunner or two to emerge between now and the championship race.”
In addition to being just seven seconds apart, just nine places separated Bucknell's top runner from its fifth runner. Junior Luke Giugliano (110th), senior Andrew Kirna (113th), sophomore Zach Williams (116th) and sophomore Will Bordash (117th) rounded out the Bison's scored runners.
Included among the teams Bucknell finished ahead of were Loyola (Ill.), South Alabama, North Florida and ETSU, all teams ranked in their respective regions. The Bison are 10th in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Bucknell will have a weekend off before returning to competition with two events on Saturday, Oct. 17. The Bison will send one group of runners to the Princeton Invitational, while another group will compete at the Penn State Open.
