Men's Water Polo Goes 1-1 on Final Day of Santa Clara Rodeo

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Jeff Hagen scored five goals and Stefan Aleksic added four as the No. 14 Bucknell men's water polo team concluded its five-game California road trip with a 20-11 victory over Fresno Pacific Sunday evening at the Santa Clara Rodeo. Earlier in the day the Bison played host and No. 16 ranked Santa Clara and fell by a 12-8 score.
Bucknell (13-8) went 2-3 on its weekend road trip to California with all three losses to nationally ranked foes.
In the win over the Sunbirds (9-13), seven different Bison netted goals and Bucknell led 13-6 at halftime. The 20 goals scored equaled the most the Bison have scored in a game this season as they moved to 3-0 all-time against Fresno Pacific.
In the day's opening game, Bucknell was within one goal in the fourth quarter, but Santa Clara (9-15) scored four consecutive goals to take a 12-7 lead.
Sean Daley (2g, 3a) and Tommy Stupp (2g, 2a) led the way offensively for the Bison, who trailed 7-6 at the conclusion of the third period. Three of Bucknell's goals were man-up scores, while senior Max Wilder connected on a five-meter penalty shot.
The Bison will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 31, when they travel to Princeton for their final CWPA league game of the year. Bucknell will host Mercyhurst the following day (Nov. 1) in its final regular-season contest of the 2015 campaign.
