Women's Tennis Opens Bucknell Tournament with Solid Showing

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Maria Cioffi and Stephanie Pino recorded a pair of doubles victories to move into the semifinals of the bracket, highlighting the first day of the Bucknell Tournament Friday for the Bison women's tennis team. Cioffi was also one of six Bucknell players to win a singles match to open the three-day tournament and the Bison's fall season.
Cioffi and freshman Lisa Jouravleva posted singles wins in Flight A and will begin Saturday in the quarterfinals. Melissa Parks, Christie Schneider and Madeline Melch recorded victories in Flight B singles, while Alyssa McAndrew received a bye, giving the Bison half of the eight-person quarterfinal field.
Emilie Bush won her singles match in Flight C and Allison Lane received a bye, giving Bucknell a total of eight players in the quarterfinals of the three flights.
The Bucknell Tournament will continue Saturday and Sunday. It is the first event of the fall for the Bison, who will also host a two-day event Sept. 27-28.
