Bendzinski Earns Patriot League Cross Country Rookie of the Week Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman cross country runner Christine Bendzinski has been selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, following her first ever collegiate race. She helped Bucknell win the team title at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational on Saturday.

Bendzinski finished second out of 265 runners in the 6k race, leading a group of four Bucknell runners to place in the top seven. She crossed the line in 23:04.45, nearly five seconds ahead of the third-place runner.

The Bison have won all three PL Rookie of the Week awards to open the season. Brennan Sharkey received the award in each of the first two weeks of her collegiate career.

Bucknell has won both of the scored invitationals it has ran in this season, and took four of the top five individual spots in the season-opening Bison Open. The Bison return to action on Friday when they run in the Panorama Farms Invitation in Earlysville, Virginia.
