LEWISBURG, Pa- After having the past weekend off, the Bucknell men's tennis team will head to Philadelphia to play in the Saint Joseph's Invitational. Match play is set to begin on Friday, and 10 teams will be participating.
This weekend, Bucknell will be competing against Army, Delaware, Drexel, Fairfield, Lafayette, La Salle, Loyola Maryland, Saint Joseph's, and Villanova. Head coach Craig Schwartz is looking forward to seeing some familiar opponents, in addition to at least one new team.
“Army will be there, and it's always nice to see who is new on their team,” Schwartz said. “It's good to see some of the conference competitors that we will be facing.”
The Bison have played against the majority of these teams in the past, and will play many head-to-head later in the season.
“We play Villanova, Delaware and Saint Joseph's and a few others during the year, so this tournament is a lot of teams we're familiar with. The only new team we haven't seen at this tournament in the past is Fairfield.”
Junior Nick Bybel is set to represent Bucknell in Flight 1 singles on Friday, coming off of a 4-0 record at the Bucknell Tournament. Freshman Maxwell Kane will join him in Flight 1 singles on Saturday, and the duo will also play in Flight 1 doubles together.
Octavio Canibe and Ben Gerber performed well in doubles in their first tournament, and hope to add more wins to their undefeated record of 3-0.
The first matches are set to begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19.
