JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior Laddie Trees was the first of three Bison to compete at this weekend's NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships, representing the Bucknell men's track and field team in the javelin. Weather in Jacksonville forced a delay in competition at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium, but Trees turned in a top-notch performance when action resumed, placing 17th out of 48 athletes.
Trees was selected to the East Preliminary after an exceptional outing at the Patriot League Championships, earning the 27th seed with his second-place toss of 223-4, a distance that made him the fifth-best all-time performer in the event in Bucknell history. The second team All-Patriot League honoree produced his second-best mark of the season on Thursday afternoon, turning in a toss of 211-4 to place 17th in the East Region.
“Laddie threw very well to narrowly miss the final and he finished well above his seed,” commented head coach Kevin Donner. “He is only a junior, and this experience will really set him up well for next year.”
Two more Bison will be in action at Hodges Stadium on Friday, as junior Christian Lupica and senior Tyler Erhard are both set to compete. Lupica will take to the track for the 110m hurdles at 5 p.m. and will race in the third heat, while Erhard will compete in the first heat of the 3000m steeplechase at 8:50 p.m.
