Baseball's Danny Rafferty Named Bison Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell baseball freshman Danny Rafferty (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) was named the Bison Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after posting a team-high four hits and four RBIs in Bucknell's Patriot League Championship Series sweep of Lehigh last Friday. The rookie started in left field in the 5-4 game one victory and was the starting designated hitter in the 7-2 clinching contest.
A starter in 20 games this season, Rafferty had two hits in both ends of the doubleheader and also drove in a pair of runs in each contest. He reached base six times in eight plate appearances. Rafferty's two-run double in the second inning of game one tied the score at 2-2, while he capped a five-run fourth inning with an RBI single in game two. He extended the Bison lead to 6-0 with a sixth-inning ground out.
Rafferty had three multi-hit games in the Patriot League Tournament and has at least one hit in six of his last eight games played.
A left-handed hitter who has seen the bulk of his playing time this year in left field and at DH, Rafferty it hitting .264 with five extra-base hits and nine RBIs this season.
Rafferty is the third different baseball player to earn Bison Athlete of the Week honors this season, joining Andrew Andreychik (March 24, April 1) and Dan Weigel (April 28).
Rafferty and his Bucknell teammates will be hosting Columbia in a four-game series Friday and Saturday, May 23-24. The Bison will find out their NCAA Tournament destination next Monday, May 26. NCAA Regional play begins Friday, May 30.
