Grinberg, Spring Earn Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. – A pair of New York City products in junior goalie Sam Grinberg and sophomore long-stick defensive midfielder Alex Spring earned Patriot League honors on Monday after leading the Bucknell men's lacrosse team to a pair of victories over Brown and Boston University last week.
Spring earned his first career Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week citation, while Grinberg captured his second Goalie of the Week honor of the year and third of his career. Bucknell's defense was terrific in the two wins. Against Brown, the Bison held the Bears to only two first-half goals en route to a commanding 10-2 halftime lead, and Bucknell would go on to post a 13-8 win. In a 7-3 victory over Patriot League newcomer Boston University on Saturday, the Bison trailed 3-2 early in the second quarter, then shut out the Terriers for the final 43 minutes of the game.
Grinberg logged 13 saves in each game, and in both contests eight of his 13 stops came in the second half. He allowed only 11 goals and posted a .703 save percentage for the week. Grinberg upped his season save percentage to .580, fourth-best in the Patriot League. He also ranks third in the league in saves per game with 11.3.
Spring spearheaded an outstanding week for Bucknell's group of long-stickmen. In the Brown victory he caused four turnovers and picked up a career-high nine ground balls. And then against Boston University he had three caused turnovers and six ground balls.
Spring leads the team with 36 ground balls in nine games this season, and he ranks second on the squad in caused turnovers with 14.
The Bison have now won three games in a row to improve to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League heading into a key conference matchup at No. 20 Army on Saturday at noon at West Point.
