LEWISBURG, Pa. – Two more members of the Bucknell track and field team were honored with weekly awards after the team's stellar performance at both the Youngstown State National Invitational and the Akron Invitaitonal this past weekend, as senior Ray Holmes (Campbell, N.Y./Campbell-Savona Central) and sophomore Sophia Nnadi (Columbus, Ohio/Saint Frances DeSales) were selected as the M-F Athletic Patriot League Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday. Both student-athletes are earning weekly recognition from the league for the first time in their careers.
Holmes was named Field Athlete of the Week on the men's side after turning in an impressive triple jump performance at the Akron Invitational. The senior, who is the defending Patriot League champion in the event at both the indoor and outdoor championships, earned first place at Akron with a personal best leap of 49-09.25. The mark, which qualified him for IC4As and also elevated him to the second spot on Bucknell's all-time performers list, is the top distance turned in by a Patriot League athlete this season.
Nnadi completed the Bucknell sweep of the weekly field awards, claiming Field Athlete of the Week on the women's side. The thrower competed at the Youngstown State National Invitational last weekend, turning in personal bests in both the shot put and the weight throw. Nnadi won the shot put with a heave of 45-01.00, becoming the only Patriot League thrower to surpass the ECAC mark in the event this season and making herself the fifth all-time performer in the event in program history. She also claimed a runner-up finish in the weight throw with a mark of 51-11.75, ranking her tenth on Bucknell's list of all-time performers.
Holmes, Nnadi and the rest of the squad will host the Bucknell Tune-Up meet on Friday, Feb. 14 as part of their preparations for the upcoming Patriot League Championships. The Bison, who are looking to sweep the conference titles, are set to host the league meet from Friday, Feb. 21 through Sunday, Feb. 23 at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
