LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell volleyball team suffered its first sweep in six matches with a 3-0 loss to visiting Lehigh on Saturday evening at Davis Gym. The Mountain Hawks topped the Bison for the second time this season, winning with scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-13.
Lehigh, one of just two Patriot League teams to clinch a spot in the conference tournament entering this weekend's matches, sits in second place at 20-9 overall and 13-2 in league play. The Bison dropped to 5-18 overall and 4-10 in the conference.
Setter Amy Matula had a great all-around performance for the Mountain Hawks with 34 assists, four aces and 10 digs. Stephanie Slater led their offensive attack with 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Jade Van Streepen added 12 kills.
Sophomore Kristen Parks had 20 digs and junior Meghan Wentzel finished with 22 assists to lead Bucknell. Jordan Walker tallied nine kills and seven digs.
The Bison have led the conference in blocks for almost the entire season, but had a season-low three against the Mountain Hawks.
Bucknell closes the season with a pair of matches at home next weekend. They will look to up their best conference win total in four years when they host Loyola (Md.) on Friday, and will play a non-conference match against NJIT on Saturday.
