Men's Water Polo Opens Southern Championships with 11-7 Win Over W&J

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bucknell men's water polo team opened the Southern Championships at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool Friday evening and defeated Washington & Jefferson by an 11-7 score. Grant Curry led the way for the Bison with four goals, while Jeff Hagen, Stefan Aleksic and Nate Hunter added two apiece.
Bucknell (13-7) is the third seed in the 11-team field, while the Presidents are the No. 6 seed. The Bison will conclude round robin play within their bracket Saturday morning at 10:15 against 10th-seeded Monmouth College. The first-place team in the bracket will move on to Saturday afternoon's semifinals.
Bucknell, which has won eight of its last nine games and is ranked 12th nationally, sprinted to a 6-1 halftime lead on Friday and coasted to the four-goal victory, its second over Washington & Jefferson this year and 16th in 16 all-time meetings.
