LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Chris Hass scored 70 points while making nearly two-thirds of his shots in three games last week – all against teams that played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament and two of which are currently ranked in the top-25 – and on Monday he was honored with the Lids Team Sports Patriot League Player of the Week award.
Hass' outstanding week started last Monday, when he scored 21 points on 7-for-14 shooting (5-for-8 from 3-point range) in a 77-53 loss at No. 24/23 Michigan. Playing in his home state for the first time, Hass scored 14 points in one torrid 2:40 stretch in the second half.
On Thursday, Hass torched 12th-ranked Villanova for a career-high 32 points, shooting 9-for-12 from the field and 11-for-12 at the foul line. He helped the Bison rally from 14 points down in the first half to take the lead late in the second. Hass accounted for Bucknell's last 10 points of the game, with each score either tying the game or giving the Bison the lead. His final bucket of the night was a trey with 1:51 to play that put Bucknell on top 65-63, but the Wildcats rallied to win it 72-65.
The Bison closed out a busy three-game week with a 73-69 loss to defending Northeast Conference champion Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. In that one Hass tallied 17 points while making 5 of 6 shots from the field and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.
For the week, Hass averaged 23.3 points per game while making 21 of 32 from the field (.656), 9 of 16 from 3-point distance (.563) and 19 of 21 at the foul line (.905). He leads the team in scoring at 18.8 points per game for the year, the third-best mark in the Patriot League. Hass earned Patriot League Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.
Bucknell is right back in action with a pair of games Monday and Tuesday at the Progressive Legends Classic in Toledo, Ohio. The Bison take on subregional host Toledo on Monday at 7 p.m., and they will play either Detroit or Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
