LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman men's water polo player Grant Curry (La Jolla, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) earned his first career Bison Athlete of the Week award on Monday. The team's leading goal scorer this year, Curry totaled a team-high 13 goals during Bucknell's run to the Southern Championships title game.
The highlight of the weekend for Curry was a career-high seven goals in a 14-13 win over Navy in the semifinals. It marked the most goals by a Bison player since 2012 and his seven points in the game equaled the most by a Bucknell player this year.
Curry, who has a team-high 17 multi-goal games this fall, also scored four goals in a win over Washington & Jefferson and two goals in a close championship game loss to top-seeded and ninth-ranked Princeton.
Curry had scored 57 goals this season and his 68 points are second on the squad. Additionally, Curry ranks third on the team with 25 ejections drawn.
This is the third weekly award for Curry this season. He previously earned two CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week honors.
Bucknell (15-8) posted a 3-1 record over the weekend as it advanced to the title game of the Southern Championships for the fourth time in five years. The Bison will be playing in the CWPA Championship for the 15th consecutive year starting next Friday, Nov. 21, in Annapolis, Maryland.
Update:
On Nov. 11, Curry added CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week honors. It was the third time he has won the award this season.
