Bybel Earns Weekly Award

LEWISBURG, Pa.- After returning home from a three-day tournament, junior Nick Bybel (Lancaster, Pa./Hilton Head Christian Academy (S.C.)) was recognized as the Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. Bybel won the top singles title at the Virginia Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.
The tournament began on Friday, when Bybel and his partner, freshman Maxwell Kane, won two of their three matches in the Orange Doubles bracket. Bybel and Kane boast a 9-2 doubles record for the year.
On Saturday, singles play began at the tournament. Bybel won his first match against second-seeded Egon Samaii from Liberty, 7-5, 6-2. Later in the day, he defeated Luke Gamble from Princeton, 6-3, 6-3.
The semifinal round began on Sunday morning, when Bybel faced Cornell's Bernardo Casares. He was able to pull off the win (6-1, 6-3) and advanced to the final round. For the Blue Singles title, Bybel beat Jai Corbett from Virginia Tech, 3-6, 6-4, 10-2. He finished the day with a 4-0 record.
With these victories, Bybel broke 100 wins throughout his collegiate career as a Bison. His combined singles and doubles record currently sits at 105-43, placing him 10th in program history for all-time victories.
Other than finishing the ITA All-American tournament with a 1-1 record, Bybel has won every team singles tournament he has participated in this season. He will be back on the courts on Oct. 16 for the Mid-Atlantic Regionals, the last men's tennis tournament of the fall season.
