Pin by Stolfi Propels Orange to 18-16 Victory Over Blue in Wrestling's Intrasquad Match

LEWISBURG, Pa. – A pin by Joe Stolfi in the final bout of the night sealed the outcome of Friday evening's Bucknell wrestling intrasquad match in favor of the Orange team by an 18-16 margin. Overall, the match was very even as eight of the 10 bouts were decided by decision and both the Orange and Blue squads each registered five victories.
Paul Petrov, Victor Lopez, Robert Schlitt, John Faugno and Tyler Lyster posted wins for Blue, while Tyler Smith, Rustin Barrick, Austin Wetterau, Tom Sleigh and Stolfi registered victories for Orange.
It was a night for veterans as five of the 10 wins were posted by juniors or seniors and those two classes put together an overall record of 5-2.
The Blue team captured four of the first six bouts and led throughout until Stolfi won by fall in 2:38 in the final bout to turn a 16-12 deficit into a two-point win for Orange. It was just the second bonus-point win of the night as Lopez posted a 12-2 major decision earlier.
Three rookies collected wins in their first time competing as Bison as Smith (Orange), Faugno (Blue) and Sleigh (Orange) came out on top in their bouts.
“It was good to see the guys have to work on getting down to weight and getting the chance to get out here and compete as we continue our preparations for the beginning of the regular season,” said assistant coach Jim Gibson.
Bucknell officially opens its season with a dual match at Pittsburgh Nov. 8. The Bison wrestle at home for the first time Dec. 20 against Virginia.
