Last weekend, the Bison claimed two singles titles and the lone doubles title at the Bucknell Tournament. Junior Maria Cioffi dominated in Flight A singles and doubles (with the help of teammate Michele Urbinati) , and sophomore Jorie Fox took home the Flight C singles title. Coach Rebecca Helt was pleased with the way her team performed.
“I thought we executed really well in our matches,” Helt said. “Every week this fall, we focused on specifics and on making small adjustments. My hope is that this final weekend of competition will be the culmination of all of the hard work the players have put in.”
Helt has high expectations for the last fall tournament, and anticipates returning to Lewisburg with many wins.
At the Bucknell Tournament, Cioffi broke 100 career wins; er overall record stands at 104 going into this weekend.
“Maria has one of the most effective game styles in tennis,” Helt said. “She is a consistent baseliner or counterpuncher with the ability to attack. Her style of play is going to be effective against just about anyone. She doesn't give much away to her opponents.”
Junior Stephanie Pino has been another driving force in the team's success. Her career doubles record currently sits at 33-34, which earned her a spot in the Bucknell women's tennis record book.
The Mount St. Mary's Invite will begin on Friday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m.
