LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball freshman Erika Eastley (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance) was recently named the first Bison Athlete of the Week of the 2013-14 academic year. The middle blocker led Bucknell in kills (35) and total blocks (22) at this past weekend's La Salle Invitational.
The Bison registered a 2-1 record at the three-match event thanks in part to Eastley's performance. She led Bucknell in kills in two of the three matches and her nine block assists in her first career match (vs. Sacramento State) were one shy of the program's single-match record that has stood for a decade.
Eastley opened the weekend with 14 kills against the Hornets. She followed that performance with nine kills, two block assists and two solo blocks in a 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. Eastley closed the weekend with 12 kills, five block assists and three solo blocks in a 3-1 victory against host La Salle.
Only two Bison had more solo blocks in all of 2012 than Eastley's six over the weekend. She is hitting a team-best .463, including .528 in the two Bucknell wins.
Bucknell will return to action Sept. 6-7 at the Cornell Invitational. The Bison will face Iona, Buffalo and Cornell.
