SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Lake Natoma) –The Bucknell women's rowing lightweight eight was making its eighth consecutive appearance in the Grand Final of the IRA National Championship Regatta Sunday and the Bison ended up posting their seventh straight top-five finish as they placed fourth in the six-boat field. It equaled the fourth-best showing at the event in program history.
Bucknell posted a time of 6 minutes, 57.536 seconds to cross the line just under 2.5 seconds behind bronze medalist Wisconsin. Stanford won the race for the fourth straight year, crossing the finish line nearly four seconds ahead of runner-up Radcliffe.
The Bison won the IRA crown in 2007 and placed second in 2009 and 2012, marking the only finishes better than this year. Bucknell also finished fourth in 2008.
The Bison earned a spot in the Grand Final thanks to a second-place showing to Stanford in Saturday's heat.
Bucknell, Georgetown, Princeton, Radcliffe, Stanford and Wisconsin have made up the six-boat Grand Final at the IRA Regatta each of the last seven years. Stanford has four gold medals, Wisconsin three and Bucknell one since the Bison started competing at the event in 2006.
