PRINCETON, N.J. - Michael McGowan earned All-East honors in the 10,000 meters and two other Bison collected top-10 finishes as Bucknell track and field opened at the ECAC and IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J., on Friday. McGowan finished fourth in the 10K to put the Bison in eighth in the team standings early in the meet. Competition continues tomorrow morning and runs through Sunday.
McGowan became the first Bison in more than a decade to be named All-East in the 10,000 meters. The last to do so was Greg Costello with his own fourth-place finish in 2002. McGowan's honors came with a time of 30:30.89.
The only Bison to score so far in the IC4A Championships, McGowan places Bucknell eighth in the team standings out of 15 squads that have tallied points.
Also competing on the men's side was a trio of steeplechase runners. Tyler Erhard led the group with a 10th-place finish. The junior logged a career-best 9:04.13 in the race. Just behind him in 12th was Robert Yamnicky who recorded a career best of his own. The senior clocked in at 9:05.72. John Dugan was 21st in 9:14.82.
Getting the women started on Friday were Abby Monaghan in the discus and three Bison in the 10,000 meters. Monaghan was just two inches off her personal event, throwing 151-7 for ninth place. The throw was her best of the season by more than a foot, however.
Montana DiPietrantonio led the women's trio in the 10K. The sophomore finished 14th in 37:07.61.
