LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman pitcher Andrew Andreychik (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday. The right-hander pitched seven innings and allowed just one run in the Bison's 16-10 victory over Navy on Sunday as he earned his second win of the year.
A native of nearby Danville, Andreychik was making his fourth career start and he retired 15 of the final 17 hitters he faced to improve to 2-2 on the year. The seven innings pitched were a career high. He struck out three and walked just one and departed with Bucknell holding a 16-1 lead.
Andreychik's last three appearances have come as a starter. He pitched six innings and was not charged with an earned run in a 3-1 victory over Binghamton in late March. Andreychik, who owns a 3.86 ERA as a starter, then made his first career Patriot League start last Sunday at Holy Cross.
Andreychik's ERA dropped by more than a run thanks to his stellar performance at Navy, which was Bucknell's third win in the four-game weekend series. He now ranks fifth on the team in ERA (4.39), while his 26.2 innings are fourth. He has struck out 17 and yielded just seven extra-base hits.
Andreychik is Bucknell's second Patriot League Rookie of the Week this season. Fellow freshman Max Kra was honored March 4.
The Bison will return to action Wednesday, April 10, at Penn State. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
