VESTAL, N.Y. – Bucknell men's tennis saw its four-match winning streak come to an end in a 7-0 loss to Binghamton at Vestal, N.Y., on Sunday morning. Nick Bybel and Josh Katten returned to the top of the doubles lineup and pulled out the only win for the Bison, which are now 11-6 on the year.
Bybel and Katten defeated Bastian Bornkesselll and Sid Hazarika by a score of 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. That accounted for the only victory on the day for Bucknell, although the Bison had several other close matches. Kelly Morque, Josh Katten and Aidan Lynch all went three sets in their singles matches. Morque battled back from a first-set loss against Alexander Maisin at No. 2 singles before ultimately falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Katten and Lynch both won their first sets before the Bearcats rallied. Katten fell 6-7, 6-1, (10-3) to Robin Lesage. Lynch dropped a 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, decision to Janik Burri.
With his doubles victory, Katten now has a career combined record of 149-92. The senior needs just one more win to tie Ryan Sandburg for the all-time program wins lead. Sandburg graduated in 2009 with a career record of 150-113.
Lynch and Ryan Marcil combined for a close match in doubles as well, but fell 8-6 to Ruben Haggai and Eliott Hureau.
Bucknell is now 0-8 all-time against Binghamton, the five-time defending American East champions. Sunday was the teams' first meeting since 2007.
The Bison will return home for their next four matches. Bucknell will host Lehigh at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Varsity Tennis Courts to lead off that stretch.
