WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Bucknell men's tennis won the doubles point but could not hang on in a 4-2 loss to Army at the West Branch Tennis Club after play was forced inside due to wet conditions on Friday evening. The Bison fall to 11-7 on the year and 1-2 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights clinch the regular-season league title with an overall record of 15-6 and a 5-0 mark in conference action.
Aidan Lynch and Evan Zimmer topped their foes Asika Isoh and Harrison McCormick by a score of 8-4 to give Bucknell the first doubles win of the day. The opening point of the match officially went to the Bison with an 8-6 decision for Octavio Canibe and Kelly Morque over Henry Jang-Milsten and Peter Sienko.
Lynch and Zimmer remain undefeated in doubles since beginning their partnership. The duo is now 5-0 this spring when playing together, giving them the longest winning streak of the season.
Zimmer was also responsible for Bucknell's second point as he defeated Caison Best in three sets at third singles. Best rallied after losing the first set, but it was Zimmer who came out on top in the end by a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. The Bison senior has now extended his singles winning streak to five matches as well.
Zimmer was not the only Bison to go the distance in singles play. Playing on Senior Day, his classmates Morque and Josh Katten also went three sets, but unlike Zimmer they were not so lucky. Morque fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Rashad Shelton, while Katten dropped the 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 decision to Alex Van Velzer.
Katten was looking to overtake the Bucknell record for career wins on Friday, needing just one more to tie Ryan Sandburg. In addition to his singles loss, however, Katten was unable to finish his doubles bout before the match was called after the initial point was determined. Katten and Nick Bybel saw their day end with the score against Austin McCasin and Shelton at 8-7.
Bucknell will return to action on Sunday against Lafayette. The Bison will host the Leopards at the Varsity Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
