LEWISBURG, Pa. - Six Bucknell men's water polo players were honored with All-Academic Awards by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) earlier this week. It is the second academic honor in recent weeks for all six of the Bison, who were also named to the ACWPC All-Academic Team in March.
Student-athletes were recognized in three levels: 3.20 to 3.40 GPA (Excellent), 3.41 to 3.70 GPA (Superior) and 3.71 to 4.0 (Outstanding). Bucknell had one player recognized in the Outstanding category, two in the Superior list and three more in the Excellent group.
Senior goalie Matt Napleton was listed in the Outstanding category, while Alex Nowlin and Ken Wattana landed on the Superior list. Max Wilder, Stephen Norton and Julian Colina were part of the Excellent group. As a team, Bucknell's cumulative grade-point average was just under 3.0, ranking it among the nation's leaders.
Overall, 127 student-athletes were recognized by the CWPA for GPAs of at least 3.2.
Bucknell finished the 2012 season with a 17-14 record and advanced to the title game of the Eastern Championship for the first time since 1993 and won its first-ever Southern Championships crown.
