ANN ARBOR, Mich. –Julianne Valdes scored three goals and Mackenzie Ferry equaled her career high with three assists, but the Bucknell women's water polo team could not overcome a 6-3 halftime deficit and lost to Brown by a 12-7 score Saturday afternoon at the Eastern Championship. Bucknell will now play in the seventh-place game for the third straight year where it will face conference rival George Washington at noon on Sunday.
Fifth-seeded Brown (17-20) outscored the eighth-seeded Bison by one goal in the first, third and fourth periods as it advanced to Sunday's fifth-place game. Liz Rosen's three goals paced the Brown offense.
Bucknell (7-19) drew a season-high 16 ejections, including a career-high six by Hannah Sunday and four by Valdes, but the Bison did not convert enough six-on-fives to advance to the fifth-place game for the first time since 2010.
Taylor Barnett had two goals, while Stephanie Ovalle and Sunday had one apiece to round out the list of Bucknell scorers. Rena Heim posted eight saves in goal.
