PHILADELPHIA -Bucknell track and field's sprinters were out in full force as the Bison continued their run at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field on Friday. Highlighting the day's events was the women's 4x200 relay, which broke the school record for the second time this year. The men's 4x100 also ran one of the fastest times in program history and advanced to tomorrow's college final.
The only Bison women competing on Friday, the 4x200 relay finished 25th overall with a time of 1:39.34. The quartet of Jennifer Zymet, Chrissy Haney, Sasha Hornock and Kim Nagotko are the first Bison to run a sub-1:40 and broke the previous record by a full two seconds.
It is the second time this year that the 4x200 relay set a school record. The first came at the Colonial Relays (1:41.35) and was run by Zymet, Hornock, Jess Bridle and Nagotko. Nagotko has now had a hand in four Bucknell records this spring, including the 100- and 200-meter standards last weekend.
Bucknell's men were led on the track by an 18th-place finish from the 4x100 relay. Jacob Eaton Hall, Justin Hicks, Kamal Riley and Christian Lupica teamed up for a time of 41.28 seconds, which ranks second in program history. The Bison, which won their heat, will now run tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. in the third-tier final.
Also on the track was the men's distance medley relay, which placed 14th in 9:59.43 thanks to Tyler Erhard, Kevin Keller, Ryan Johnson and Andrew Garcia-Garrison.
In the field events, the story was in the throws where Stephen Koullias and Luke Webster earned top-10 finishes in the shot put and discus, respectively. Koullias took eighth in the Eastern division of the shot, throwing 51-9 ¼ for a season best. The senior was joined in the event by Webster (50-2 ½) and Quinten Marcott (49-6 ¼), who placed 13th and 17th.
In the discus, Webster finished with a throw of 165-11, which earned him 10th place overall in the college division.
Competition at the Penn Relays concludes tomorrow. Joining the 4x100 relay will be Leonard Joseph in the championship flight of the hammer throw. The Bison will also be competing at the Maroon & Gold Invitational in Bloomsburg, Pa., on Saturday.
