LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's water polo juniors Mackenzie Ferry (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Julianne Valdes (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) were named Second Team Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Southern Division, the league office announced Thursday evening at its annual Hall of Fame banquet. It is the first career honor for Ferry, while Valdes is a member of the second team for a second consecutive year.
A starter in 19 of Bucknell's 23 games this year, Ferry has totaled 12 goals and ranks second on the team with 17 assists. All of her scoring numbers are career-high figures. Additionally, Ferry has six steals, one ejection drawn and four field blocks.
Ferry recently posted her highest goal output of the season (3) in the Southern Championships against Mercyhurst. She has seven multi-assist contests.
A veteran of 91 career games, Ferry now has 49 goals, 40 assists and 89 points in her three years as Bison.
Valdes was an offensive force her first two years at Bucknell and that has only continued this spring. She is second on the team with 30 goals, while her 42 points pace the squad. Valdes is fourth on the team with 12 ejections drawn, tied for third with eight steals and has won all six of her sprints.
Valdes has scored at least one point in every game this season, extending her streak to 50 straight contests with a point. She has six multi-goal outings this season.
The No. 11 scorer in program history with 233 career points, Valdes enters this weekend's Eastern Championship ranked tied for 11th on the career goals list with 134 and tied for seventh on the career assists ledger with 99.
Valdes is Bucknell's first repeat all-conference selection since Kandis Canonica was cited four consecutive years from 2008 to 2011.
Ferry, Valdes and the rest of the eighth-seeded Bison open play at the Eastern Championship Friday at 10 a.m. against ninth-seeded Mercyhurst. The 12-team event will run Friday through Sunday at Michigan's Canham Natatorium. The winner will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
