PHILADELPHIA - Bucknell track and field opened competition at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field on Thursday, featuring the Bison distance runners and throwers. Caroline Tolli highlighted the group of four in action on day one, running one of the best 3,000-meter times in program history. John Dugan earned a top-10 finish in the steeplechase to kick things off for the men.
Tolli finished 12th overall with a time of 9:45.91. The senior's finish earned her the fourth-fastest time in program history, less than one second behind Emily Liggett's No. 3 finish, which also came at the Penn Relays one year ago.
Also competing for the women were Abby Monaghan and Sophia Nnadi. Monaghan was 16th in the college division of the discus with a mark of 144-2. Nnadi took 22nd in the Eastern shot put, throwing 41-5 ¾.
Dugan was the only Bison man in action on Thursday and he earned Bucknell's only top-10 finish as the sophomore placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Dugan clocked in at 9:15.98.
Bucknell will continue at the Penn Relays tomorrow. Among those scheduled to compete are Luke Webster, Quinten Marcott and Stephen Koullias in the shot put, the men's 4x100 and distance medley relay and the women's 4x200. Webster will also compete in the discus on Friday.
